Tories pledge Triple Lock Plus pension allowance
The Conservatives have pledged to increase the state pension by the higher of inflation, average earnings or 2.5% - a move they have branded the "triple lock plus". The party said the policy would give pensioners "certainty and security" in their retirement and would cost £1.2bn a year.
Labour has said it will not announce any spending commitments until after the general election in December. The party's shadow chancellor, John McDonnell, said the Tories' pledge was "unfunded" and would "add to the deficit".
